The Role

Headquartered in Dunoon, with engineering workshops in Dunoon and offices in Glasgow, Shearwater Marine Group designs, manufactures and supports specialist systems for the commercial diving industry. Our equipment is trusted by professional diving, marine and scientific contractors around the world and operates in some of the most demanding underwater environments, where reliability, safety and performance are paramount. As we continue to expand our product range, we are looking to recruit one or more Product Development Engineers to strengthen our engineering team Working as part of a small, experienced engineering team, you will contribute to the development of innovative products used by commercial divers worldwide. This is a varied role where you'll be involved in every stage of the product lifecycle, combining electronic, software and physical product design to create practical engineering solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Depending on your skills and experience, your responsibilities may include:

  • Developing complete products from concept through to manufacture and customer deployment.
  • Designing and developing electronic hardware, embedded systems and software.
  • Contributing to the physical and mechanical design of products, including enclosure design,component integration, ergonomics and manufacturability.
  • Integrating electronics, software and mechanical elements into complete systems. Building and evaluating prototypes using workshop and rapid prototyping facilities.
  • Designing products for reliability, environmental protection, ease of manufacture and long-term serviceability.
  • Planning and carrying out functional, environmental and validation testing.
  • Producing engineering documentation, technical drawings and design records.
  • Working closely with manufacturing, suppliers and customers throughout the development process.
  • Supporting existing products through continuous improvement and new feature development.

REQUIRED SKILLS

We're looking for engineers who are enthusiastic, practical and enjoy solving real-world engineering challenges.

You may have experience in some of the following:

  • Product development involving electronics, software or integrated systems.
  • Embedded C/C++ development.
  • Python, C#, or other modern programming languages.
  • Embedded processors and microcontroller-based systems.
  • Analogue and digital electronic design.
  • PCB design and electronic testing.
  • Mechanical CAD and product design.
  • Design for Manufacture (DfM), Design for Assembly (DfA) and prototype development.
  • Communications protocols including Ethernet, CAN, RS-485, SPI and I²C.
  • Linux and/or Windows development environments.
  • Hardware and software integration, testing and troubleshooting.
  • Version control using Git.

A degree in Electronics Engineering, Software Engineering, Product Design, Mechanical Engineering,Computer Engineering or a related discipline is desirable, although equivalent industrial experience will also be considered.

Experience within the marine,subsea, offshore, industrial automation or other safety-critical engineering sectors would be advantageous but is not essential.

Most importantly, we're looking for engineers who enjoy taking ideas from concept to reality and who are keen to work across traditional engineering disciplines to deliver innovative products.
