Shearwater Complete Works on Kincardine Bridge
Zero Viz Burning in Difficult Conditions

A Shearwater dive team have completed the removal of the temporary piles prior to the opening of the new Forth Crossing at Kincardine. Working in zero visibility and strong tidal conditions the divers worked inside the 3.0m diameter piles affording them protection from the strong current. The 35mm thick steel piles were then cut leaving only a couple of tabs either side which were then 'nipped' at slack tide before being lowered to the seabed. Working closely with Gareloch Support Services, the piles casings, weighing up to 16tons were then secured to lifting bags before being floated into the shore on a high tide, for removal by the main contractor.
