Shearwater Complete Wet Welding Repairs - Helmsdale Harbour
Two Month Contract Completed

April 07
Shearwater's wet welding team completed a series of plate repairs to the main pier in Helmsdale Harbour.
A number of holes in the sheet piling, had been recorded by the harbour engineers ,as a result of ALWC and the age of he structure.
Working with RJ McLeod ( Dingwall ), the Shearwater divers were required to clean & prepare the pier face and open up a number of holes using Broco underwater cutting equipment. This was intended to allow concrete to be placed behind the new plates.
The large steel plates were located and tack welded in place, prior to full welds being applied, the plates were then sealed at the base and concrete poured behind to fill any voids in the pier structure.
The dive team worked long shifts to take advantage of the weather and tidal conditions, the biggest problem being the reduced visibility when the adjacent Helmsdale River was in spate.
With the contract now complete Sheawater would like to acknowledge the assistance & co-operation received from harbour staff & fishermen and in particular Colin, Billy and the RJ's team
