Shearwater Complete Essential Weld Repairs

Wet Welding Project

Shearwater are pleased to report the successful completion of the plate repairs to the lifting dolphins on No 1 Pier in Stornoway Harbour.

The Port Authority through Scott Wilson and RJ McLeod commissioned the repairs caused by A.L.W.C. ( Accelerated Low Water Corrosion ) that threatened the strength of the structure.Time limits had to be imposed on the work due to the need to keep the No1 pier operational.

Close liason with the Port Authority ensured all the diving work was carried out safely in a busy port

The Shearwater wet welding team progressed well with the work, under the guidance of Alex Murray and Dive Supervisor Ged McSwegan and despite encountering other minor problems brought the work to completion within the required timescales. A total of approx. 50 plates were welded to the structure as part of an ongoing maintenance programme.
